1/200 Hasegawa Northwest Orient DC-10-30

Nice work. I always liked this scheme for Northwest and it was never the same after they dropped Orient from the name.

Beautiful!  I have actually flown on the real thing, many years ago-  as well as a TWA Constellation and a Northwest Orient Boeing Stratocruiser, when you could smoke, drink, and flirt with the gorgeous stewardesses, who were hired based on their physical attributes in those days.  And you also got a usually very good meal for no extra charge!  And no TSA to hassle you.

So now you know about how ancient I am....

I realized that I mislabeled this kit.  Its actually a DC-10-30, although Northwest did have -40's as well.  The instructions don't clarify this but you can tell by the type of engines it has.

Cadet Chuck, you flew on these when they had "gorgeous" stewardesses?  Yeah, you must be really old.

Yeah, the stewardii in the old days were more like Playboy Club "bunnies" than "flight attendents".  Branniff girls were especially nice, each had a different bright colored outfit, with mini-skirts and high heels.  You younger guys don't know what you missed out on!   

Another rememberance-  In the early days of the Boeing 747, at the back of the plane they had a cocktail lounge.  There was a small bar with a girl serving drinks, sofas and easy chairs, and an electronic piano in the midst of it all, that any passenger was welcome to play!  The chairs and sofas had seat belts, there were tables and lamps on them alongside. Just like a comfy living room in your own home.

The older Boeing Stratorcruiser, ( based on the B-29 bomber) had a lower deck that you accessed down a spiral staircase, to a cocktail lounge.

Man, how things have changed, and man, how old I feel telling you guys about this!  I was there......

That looks great!  Being in the Twin Cities, I am a big fan of Northwest and would like to build that kit.  I did a quick search on Hasegawa and 1:200 and find there are quite a few kits. I'll have to look into 1:200 for the modern (huge) airliners.

My grandmother was from Brainerd (spelling?) so we went there many times via Minneapolis when I was a kid back in the 80's.  We always enjoyed the layovers at MSP so we could watch the planes.  I come from an airline family and my brother and I were (and still are ) plane spotters.

I don't know what it is but it seems like the airlines in the 80's were more fun to watch.  Plus there was much more variety in the types of planes, too.

And this is to Cadet Chuck..how about the Free cigarettes  the airlines use to give ya ...how about those rounded couches in the Electras....how about your own tea pot  in the DC-7's  ...(btw I still have mine)

Nice work on that DC-10! Once I built the 767 in Lauda Air livery. Those 1:200 Hasegawa kits are really fun to build, their fit is excellent.
