Testors Aluminum Plating.......
Posted by 67 327/400 on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 6:45 AM

I recently started making models again (Allegheny DC-9-30 and Allegheny B-727) and after I polish the metalizer until nothing remains on the rag. But someone how when handing the model afterwards my fingers transfer the metalizer to the white paint.

Is there anything to seal the metalizer with to keep this from happening?

Thanks in Advance!

They do make a sealer. Perhaps you need to consider a more friendly NMF paint. Wink

You can also seal with Future too.

Thanks, I forgot all about Future.

What kind of NMF would you use? I have Alclad, but don't have my air gun set up....in the midst of remodeling the basement.

I would strongly suggest Alclad. The stuff is very easy to handle when dry, and if you are even slightly competent with an airbrush it is not hard to apply.

I think Hawkeye also makes a similar product that is supposed to be pretty good, but I have not yet tried.

Excuse me.. Is that an Uzi?

Thanks, I've briefly played with Alclad in the past and loved the outcome. About 5yrs ago I painted the fuselage of a American Airlines MD-80 with it and then packed it away before I moved. About two weeks ago, I was going through the boxes and opened it up and it still looks perfect. For a second there, I thought it was really made of aluminum and then it dawned on me I had painted it before moving.

Once I get my bench and airbrush set up sometime in the next year, I'll get back to using the gun and Alclad.

Thanks again for all the info.
