First airliner. Questions.
Posted by sgtcat09 on Monday, November 14, 2011 9:35 PM

Hello, i recently got my 1/144 737 kit in the mail and plan to start on it soon, but had some questions. I was wondering about what most of you do as far as windows/cabin goes. It has decals with it, but i figured i could put a strip of lexan inside to make the windows at least "real" and not just a decal, but then what would i do about the inside? I don't think i could just leave it right?Being empty and open it would just look weird. So, if i wanted to put plastic windows, what could i do to make it at least look nice? I did a quick search for a complete cabin, seats etc but couldn't find one, so what's the next best option? Thanks for any help.

All the airliners I've done, I've used the decals for the cabin windows, even the cockpit windows too

In that scale the decal windows look quite good.  As an alternative, you can use one of those vinyl "glue-like" materials such as microglaze.  You put a drop in the window opening with a toothpick, drag it around the opening to make sure a film covers the whole opening, and it then dries in a transparent film.  You have to do this after painting- no way you can mask over that stuff.

I have a little Fokker 100 I'm using Dons for but using Testors clear window cement to fill the windows.  Not too many windows here.  With windows you can see into, I paint the inside a real dark grey or black.  For a bigger  Revell 747 I have I'm using decals with windows so I'll but something inside to block the openings with, fill the windows with putty from the outside, then sand smooth.  Chris
