Finished Christen Eagle
Posted by Don Stauffer on Sunday, March 18, 2012 4:05 PM

I finished the A Model Christen Eagle I was working on.  Wow, is it tiny.  Several times I about gave up.  It is not the best kit to start with, and it was so small.  Wingspan is less than 3 inches, even though it is 1:72 scale!

Beautiful job, Don!  Thanks for sharing the pix.

I know what you mean about tiny models.  That's why I generally avoid 1/72, unless it's a large subject that results in reasonably sized model, like the B-25, etc.  Most of mine are 1/48 and I like 1/32 as well for a single engine aircraft.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Nice, Don.  I don't think I will go there!

Hey Don!

Nice job on a tiny bird! I did the Airshow Models 1/32 resin Eagle a few years back for a friend, and I always intended to do one in my scheme for myself but now the kits are rare. You make me want to try one of the Amodel kits, it captures the lines of the Eagle pretty well!

Have you flown a Ford lately?

Thanks.  I kind of specialize in that "can you fool folks" kind of model photography!  I see I had the camera too high, though, so will do a few more with the camera a bit lower.

And, in response to the previous post, yeah, that is the kit canopy, probably the best molded part in the kit :-)  And, in keeping with my previous post about the difficulty of gloss finishes, I don't remember exactly how many coats of gloss white paint I have on that thing, but it is a bunch.  Usually I can do flats with two coats (in addition to the primer).
