I took a look at one I got from Tower Hobbies a month or so ago (needed 10 bucks more for free shipping) and it too has the extra parts.  The engines seemed a little different-the large pipe running down the side was different and the detail was a little crisper on one side than the other.  I mainly bought it for nostalgia.  I picked one up at the Denver airport in the early 70's when I got to go there with a friend whose dad owned a Bonanza. Update your build progress I will be interested!

Yeah, my engines were also not the same- same pipe larger on one pair than on the others. It is like they revised the mold, then put parts from both molds in kit.  At first I thought there was a choice on engines, and looked thoroughly in the directions for any "option", but did not find anything. 

Put the Lear up on a shelf temporarily to build a Roden 1/32 Hispano Suiza engine.  I am intending a larger (1/8) scratchbuilt engine later this summer, and wanted to throw together that Roden kit to make sure I am interpreting some scale drawings I have before I start the big version.

I built one a long time ago and don't remember an extra sprue.  Looks like a bonus for you today. :)
