I give up- new model on bench.
I have placed the Ford on my shelf of doom- the shelf for unfinished kits that I do intend to get back to someday. I may have to scratch the struts to the nacelles.
In the meantime I have started the new Eduard JU-52 airliner. This is apparently a new kit, and there is a nice PE set for it. There is also a military version and a PE set for that too, so you have to be sure to order the right kit and the right PE set.
There is night and day between this JU-52 (1:144) and the old airfix trimotor, but again the later is an old kit and times do change (not evenly, but by quantum leaps). The fit so far is great! And the PE set really is making the interior look nice.
The thought that came strongly to mind is, with Eduard doing an airliner in this new technology, how do we get them to make a few more. The first that comes to mind is the DC-3 (not a C-47 but a real DC-3). Sure, there is the Minicraft one- not nearly as bad as the Airfix Ford, but not nearly as nice as the Eduard JU-52! And, for that matter, while not a big hit in Europe, the Ford Tri-motor was a historic icon in the US and I know Eduard kits do sell well in this country.
