Ryanair BAC 1-11 500 1993 and Aer Lingus BAC 1-11
Posted by Mr Canberra on Friday, May 31, 2013 12:06 PM

Hi All,

This is my first post on this forum, I don't build a lot of Airliners but the ones I do, as you will see follow a theme. The first one is this 144 Airfix BAC 1-11 I converted the old Airfix using two kits and using one to 'plug' the fuselage on the other. The other mod's such as the wings were done with plastic card. The markings are a mix of things from the spares box and home made PC printed.  The Aer Lingus 1-11 is strait out of the box with Maxdecal's sheet.

And the two together to show the mod's better.

Thanks for looking

Nice work on both John. You certainly know how to do an airplane up right.

What else ya got going on?

Thanks Steve

At the moment no Airliners, I'm working all out on B.57 Canberra's for the 60th anniversary , I'm wrestling with an Airfix B.2 right now converting it into an EB.57A. But I do have a few more old Airlines builds to post, if that's ok with every one? I also have some civil build plans for next year.

Thanks mate, it wasn't too hard a job but then, I've been hacking kits up for years. Smile

I just love those airliner models, I live under the flight path of a very busy international airport, centerline under one of their runway approaches.  I know it may seem strange, but it's great to watch them fly over.  Down and dirty, that's the way I see them.  The "bombardier dash 8 Q-400 series" (did I say that right?) are my favorites, does anyone make a kit of these?

Hi I know what you mean, although military Aircraft are more my thing, I do enjoy watching the civil planes flying over my house too. As for kits of the dash 8 I think that a Canadian manufacturer did a kit of one in 1/72 Hobby craft I think try doing a search on line for it.

Hey, thanks for the response!  I'm really surprised with the popularity of that plane, the kit wouldn't be more in demand!  I'll have to input it in the next wish list for FSM.  I did a "less than thorough" search online, and saw some "ready made" models for sale, but no plastic kits that I remember.  It's okay though, I was swept away when I discovered the 1/48th "Kittyhawk" Sepecat Jaguar kit.....

tip top - a great job. I remember getting rattled to death on 1-11's on the BA shuttle service up to Scotland back in the 80's - they were great little planes in their day
