United Airlines DC-4, Minicraft kit in 1/144
Posted by Delbert on Friday, January 31, 2014 4:02 PM

Howdy,

I stepped out of my comfort zone a bit for this one, I mostly do WWII armor and some aircraft.

This is a 1/144 scale Minicraft kit The United Airlines DC-4. This is my 2nd civil aircraft build.

Nice little build, but I will say the decals were a bit fiddly and didn't want to stick to anything but themselves.

now for the photos.

thanks for looking

Looks real good! I'm getting ready to decal an Eastern DC-4 myself. I used to be just WWII but now build more civil. I like the prop liners the most.

Nice looking DC-4 Delbert! You gotta love the old propliners.Back in 2001 I got a chance to see the Save a Connie TWA Constellation at my local airport in Houston. It was very cool walking around in it.Even better if I could have gotten a ride in that bird as well.

The metal finish is excellent.  Was that Alclad, or paint, and if paint, what brand and colors?

Thanks everyone..

And Don I used Model Master Non Buffing Aluminum Metalizer Lacquer finish.  I have never used Alclad, so I can't tell you how it compares.

I didn't user Model masters Metalizer sealer though, Instead I used a couple of coats of Vallejo Semi-Gloss Clear.

Everything else except the nose and some touch ups I did was done with decals.
