Has anyone seen a model kit of the Kitfox homebuilt experimental? I just bought a full scale mod IV and would love a smaller version for my desk while I'm stuck at work. I don't want a wooden generic version made in some third world country. I'd rather build the kit myself in the correct colors.
Few homebuilts have ever been kitted as models. There have been kits of Stits and one other bipe- forget name. But the neat thing is 3 views are easy to come by, so scratching one is not a big problem.

Most of the time when you order a wooden display model you can send them pics of how you want it painted and marked and they'll do it for no extra charge.
A friend of my grandfather made his living by building, and selling these at airshows. Might have to scratch build one.

Unless that is a joke, I am assuming you do not need it to really fly. But indeed balsa would be a fine material for a scratchbuilt Kitfox, but I would cover it in silkspan or jap tissue instead of monocoat. A problem might be the engine- forget what engine most kitfoxes use, but I assume it is one not available from "Engines and Things." You'd have to find a small radial that IS available in resin that might be small enough to use in a kitfox.
Hi Don, I build a lot of RC flying models. I think it would be a lot easier to build a flying model of my Kitfox than a scale desk model of with any detail. Funny thing is the Kitfox uses a Rotax 582 two stroke two cylinder engine.
Yeah, the operative word is "any detail. Whether an RC ship or a static scale, detail is where the effort is. I think the Kitfox would be hard because of that engine. I built a 1:24 scale Pietenpol a couple of years ago, using a Model A engine from a car kit, and some wire wheels I had from an older car kit. I found several sources for plans, and it turned out fine.
Engine detail would actually be easy. You don't see much, and what you do see is the gearbox. It's just a blob of aluminum. If I could figure out how to post a photo I would.

Up front in the list of forums there is one for forum help. That is the common place for discussions on posting photos. There are some past threads about that, or you can ask again to start a new thread.
I havent seen an actual Kitfox for years! They used to have a factory at our local airport, was out there several times when I was younger. A few times when I worked for a sign company to apply decals to some of the aircraft and other times when I worked for the fire department on safety inspections. Very nice people who owned the company.
There was another kit-built aircraft company at the same airport for awhile, it was Avid Aircraft, the two aircraft looked relatively similar.
