Airfix C-47 to DC-3

Isn't the "new" kit actually the "old" Italeri kit? Not the really old original Airfix kit? (Which I have a soft spot for.) :)

Shucks!  I really like the other new Revell kits- exquisite moldings and detail.  The Italeri kit was okay, but nothing spectacular.

The new Airfix C-47 is an all-new tooling. The feedback that I've heard is that it's far better than the old Italeri/ESCI kit. High on my list of kits to aquire, and for the same reason - a DC-3 conversion.

Don, the floor on a 47 canted up a few degrees at the cargo door so as to be parallel with the ground, but the 3's ran straight. Then there is the baggage door aft of the main door, no astrodome and the tail stinger is present on the 3. I converted an ESCI kit a while back and these are just a few things I remember. I had to put Wrights on that one as well, stole the cowls from a B-17 kit!

I have new tooling 1/72 scale  Airfix C-47 kit in my stash. Definitely one of the best I've seen in a long time. Very clean and crisp with great details. Certainly not on old "Italieri" kit for sure.

Didn't Douglas end up offering both Wrights or PW on the civil DC-3s?

They did, and this model was for a fellow who flew them for Delta. This one was a -375A that the Army took as a C-49C, and amazingly, returned to them after the war.

Okay, I am sold.  Was just at a hobby shop Saturday, but will pick up a kit next time I am at one.
