Hi all,

Has anyone taken the Hasegawa E-170 kit and stretched it to be an E-175? If I'm doing my math correctly, the only difference is that the E-175 is six feet longer, which at 1/144 scale would be a half inch.

I'm thinking of picking up some decals for the current American Eagle scheme and then buying two of the Hasegawa kits so I can carefully splice in an extra half inch of fuselage.

Any thoughts?

I was not familiar with either until I flew on one (170) this past weekend.  That type of splicing usually works fine on planes with constant fuselage cross section.  I assume the stretch was some ahead of wing and some behind, so those type take two splices, still not a big job.  I'd make little tabs on interior to help align the joins.

There was a recent article in FSM about how to stretch airliner fuselages without having to buy a second kit. Very good idea.

The FSM article used one kit. That usually is a factor of cost and availability of the kits, and how the cabin windows are created. Looks like yours are decals. I see that Embraer added two.

I'd try making a plug. I've done it both ways, and I've done one shortening, DC-6 to a DC-4.

As for where. You would need drawings, but it looks like they did it mostly forward. There are two extra windows between the bulge and the front cabin door. The space between the front window and the door looks like it got a little smaller.

I keep talking myself into and out of buying it, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to order both the model and the conversion this weekend.
