I have long been a fan of Minicraft, because of the airliners and light planes they offer.  Not many other mfgs offer stuff like that.  The kits weren't great, but quite buildable.  Now, they have adopted the new molding technologies, and their new kits are really nice.  In addition to the 172 they have a new-mold 150 that looks very nice. I have it in my stash but it hasn't made it to my bench yet.  Anyone know if the conventional-tail Bonanza is new mold or a re-issue of an older release?

 

I've done a few of the kits, some years back. A pair of 150's...did a crappy job of building it as the 152 I got my license in, trashed it and did another...slightly better. Did the Cherokee(long since gone)...I do remember it having raised lines as a painting guide (or am I mistaken???). Also did the v-tail for one of the guys at my airport...wasn't a month after I got it to him, he did a belly landing. That was 16 years ago, he still has and flies it regularly and it's a beautiful as it ever was! I don't recall any of em being bad kits, they just take a little extra effort.

These 172's (Esci/Italeri) fit well enough, but those rivets and panel lines are a bit much. Also, the shapes around the rear windows is quite off. Should be a smooth transition from the roof, down to the tail boom. They have a bit too "bubbled".

I really wish we could get these in 1/32nd scale.

Those are some terrific 172's. Beautifully done. Those sure bring back some great memories of spending many hours in one as a kid flying with my father. Thanks Fermis.

Looks great!  What does that emblem on the Rust plane represent?  Is that a flying club logo, or something like that?

 

I have no idea what that emblem is about. Couldn't find a good pic/view of it. The plane was bought by a Japanese businessman and displayed at a sports complex in Utsunomiya, like so...

Ended up being taken down and stored in a barn for some time, before being disassembled and shipped back to Germany. Now, the airplane is hanging in the Museum of Technology in Berlin, and there are a few pics of it, but the emblem has been removed.

I is nice to build something that is "near and dear". I've got somewhere around 250 hours at the controls in 8 different 172's. It'd be nice to get some various U.S. N# decals, so I could build one (or more!) of the ones I've flown myself.

I took this build up to my airport today (had our X-mas lunch today) to get some airport backdrop pics...but with all the snow, it made the model too dark in the pics. I just left it there, in the display case...I'll have to get those pics once the snow is gone.
