Where IS everyone?
Posted by Don Stauffer on Saturday, July 8, 2017 10:33 AM

Sure a dirth of posts lately.  I have not been posting either, and here is why.  I took a (I thought) short time off to respond to a club challenge for early jets. I began an F-80 and a P-59, both of which were bare metal finished.  I had always had great luck with Alclad in the past, so tried to paint them with it.

I don't know what has happened, but I seem to be unable to airbrush the stuff lately! I am describing my travails in the Painting and Airbrushing forum.

I thought maybe I was being punished for breaking away from Civil Aircraft.  But looking at my stash, the next civil aircraft in my queue all have all or in part NFM finishes!  I am out of luck until I figure out how to do natural aluminum finishes again.

Well, I suspect any slowdown in activity of build posts can be attributed to the Photobucket situation.

It certainly has thrown a wrench in it. Maybe it'll pick back up soon. By the way, I need to start building.

This is a big vacation week. Maybe our members are on vacation? Also, since it is Summer thete are a lot of outside activities. My model building has come to a virtual stop. I have been working on a B-29, but I seem to find only a couple hours a week to work on it.

Photobucket woes and health issues have slowed me down.

This time of year for me usually results in a build slowdown. As soon as school is out for my son we tend to be out of town on weekends camping and such. Fortunately, I have been able to do some building on my days off, before leaving for the weekends, but as others have mentioned, this whole RansomBucket thing has put the brakes on posting photos.

For me, I switched to an account on smugmug.com. Yes, it is a pay site, but it is very reasonable, $30/year and the sharing pics process is simple. Plus, it is easy to resize photos before uploading.

Yes,  My slow-down of Posts was time I spent trying to capture as many Posted Pics of subjects I am interested in from the different forums before they went away. It seems like PB started to withdraw 3rd party hosting gradually as my pics only disapeared in the last couple of days but others lost pics earlier.

I went to Flickr and spent even more time fixing some of my posted pics with the new link from Flickr.

Folks have listed some alternatives. ( Fotki, Village photo, Flickr, )

I found a thread at http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235023381-photobucket-to-stop-allowing-direct-linking-unless-you-pay/

Don,

I have no experience on modeling of Civil Aircraft or trying to get an "Aluminum" finish correct.  I did planes in Grade school but Rattle-Can all the way.   Guess you could still get a good effect by masking a bunch of areas, spray painting , then remasking/removing masks and respraying with a different silver/titanium/greyish colors. Might give a variety of unpainted metal. But, I never tried it... Just a thought.

I've only been able to lurk around since last February (2016) due to a remodel job on my house and then moving out of said house to another city in Nebraska. Now my model room is cluttered up with all my RC stuff plus the hundreds of kits in the stash etc.  When I get a new pic sharing site I'll post up some of the pics of my room. Think I will try IMGUR (imgur.com)

Well, I did just finish the several month 1/72 Space Shuttle Orbiter W.I.P. last week despite an ongoing rebuild and paint project on my 1/1 house. Priorities. In the meantime  I purchased a fifty year old vintage basket case Hodaka motorcycle at an auction which is another of my silly passions. It's a project that could run into the realm of years. It's on another fun Forum. Ah, but I do have several fun things in the stash and the hot Summer is upon us. I'll try to start something soon to stay active and have something to discuss with all my relatively new modeling friends. The Forum is fun and not just about modeling. I do like the social part. My excuse!  Geeked  I'll be around.

I am in the midst of an online Masters Degree and that is taking all my modeling time these days. The models that I am working on are in a different category.

I sort of got the feeling that activity was picking up a bit on here. Sure, the PB issue has caused problems with posting pics, but in turn it created a whole flurry of activity.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

This is what I do in the Summer. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of  my time.

Really nice landscape art! I'm with you, outdoors is the place to be, weather permitting! Excellent work! Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

With me, its summer and lots of outside projects, work has a big project going on taking a lot of my time, then there was the Photobucket fiasco.

Now that it looks like the good old Kansas heat has settled in, I will probably get back into the basement and work on some of the models to the group builds I joined.
