Nick.
Picked up a Revell Spirit of St. Louis today at the IPMS Space Coast ModelFEST, $10.00. Might be the next kit I attempt to paint the marking on.
OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...
Beautiful! I am in the midst of listening to an audiobook about Lindberg, Eddie Rickenbacker and Jimmy Doolittle and I am itching to build a spad, the spirit, and a jenny!

Mortal as I am,I know that I am born for a day. But when I follow at my pleasure the serried multitude of the stars in their circular course, my feet no longer touch the Earth...
Very very nice. Love it.
That's really nice work all around.

Beautiful! Do they still include the Lindberg figure in the latest release?
I built that kit about seven or eight years ago- I believe same molds but modified decals. It is everything you say. There is a thread in another FSM forum that blasts Revell for being junk, with inaccuracies and lacking detail. The SoS kit is one of those gems that Revell has put out in the past ten years or so. Just finishing their aerobatic stearman, another of the gems. And both kits at very reasonable prices!

Ah History !
Even though I don't like this particular Ryan aircraft . You have certainly shown me the raw beauty of it . Thank you and you did a wonderful job on her . T.B.
Thats a very nice looking build. Great detail in the pit and really like the metal effects on the cowling.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

The Spirit of St. Louis has always been a favorite of mine. I think I've seen the Jimmy Stewart movie a half dozen times on TCM. I've built the Hawk 1/72 Spirit several times and there is still one on myshelf. I will definitely be getting this kit, especially since it's in 1/48 scale. 1/48 is more suitable for these old fingers. BTW: I graduated from Lindberg High School in St. Louis county in 1965. Go Flyers!
Excellent build, Steve.
This is the latest Spirit of St. Louis release from Revell. All the reviews you’ve read are true. It’s a fantastic kit and a fun build. For $10.00 I was very impressed with the quality and level of detail. This must be from a new tooling. I love the extensive decal sheet which lets you finish it as it was when Lindberg made the famous trans-Atlantic trip or the version after words as part of the goodwill tour. The spinner and cowling on the real aircraft were covered with swirl-patterned aluminum. Revell has given you a creative option of providing this effect with segmented decals that work well. Furthermore, included are two Charles Lindberg figures, one seated and one standing; however, you only get to use one as they are headless and only one head is included! Even though there is an accurate decal for the instrument panel, I wanted a more 3-d look so I scratch built mine and used Mike Grant individual dial decals. I finished all the fuel lines under the panel with solder and added a map for the pocket. Wanted to showcase this work inside, I secured the door open; a flashlight helps a lot here. I also flattened the wheels a bit to give the airplane a sense of weight. Looking at photos from the actual SOSL in the Smithsonian, the control cables in the tail are prominent but not included, so I added them with wire. Finally, I separated the ailerons with a small saw for more accuracy. This kit comes highly recommended of an immensely important subject of aviation history. Enjoy the pics.
