1/48 Stinson Reliant

Here we have the Stinson Reliant in 1/48 scale released by Round 2 Models or AMT again.  Apparently, Round 2 Models bought all the old tooling and rights of AMT.  Lately, they have been re-releasing some select models over the past few years, and this is one of them.  It appears to be exactly like old original AMT release in the 1970s.  The only differences I can see are that the sprue trees are individually packaged into their own clear bag and the bottom of the box has a parts/contents and sprue tree illustrations.  Otherwise, this is exactly the same old kit you remember.  If you’re familiar with all the old car models by AMT, you’ll feel right at home…some flash, some parts do not fit well, minimal detail. Etc.  Since I wanted to showcase the interior, I jazzed up the woefully simplistic instrument panel by adding my own control levers, gauges, and some careful painting.  I also added a door handle, map pocket, and ash tray to the pilot’s door.  In the rear are pulled back curtains, and a big plush couch with arm rests.  I used the simple decals that came with it and they laid down just fine.  I tried to match the stripes with Testors copper and it was off, but I think the overall copper/white scheme look nice anyway.  Since the propeller has a rather long shaft that fits nicely in the engine’s center hole, I didn’t glue it.  It freely spins when I blow on it, which is great fun when I want to fly her around the house!  Here again this is a cheap kit and readily available.  With that, I would recommend it keeping in mind some fit issues and flash.  I’ve always loved the overall lines and design of the Stinson Reliant and it makes a fine addition to my civilian collection.  Any and all comment are greatly appreciated.  Enjoy the pics.
