I'm building the RoG kit, which is a D. The ex-USAF aircraft was sold to Santa Fe Skyway in 1947. That operation was based in Kansas City, and rostered three ex- C-47s and four ex- C-54s.

NC 90863 was insulated and had refrigeration units installed. It extended the routes of the railroads business transporting fresh fruits and vegetables.

The operation was shut down after a year by the ICC. The aircraft was then converted back to a transport and operated by Argentine airlines. In 1966 it was hijacked while on an internal route, and flown to the Falkland Islands where it soft crash landed on the Stanley racetrack.

Later recovered, it changed hands several times before being scrapped.

So it appears that it was built with cabin windows, then they were removed, and later reinstalled.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Interesting!  Will you be using the Rog 1:72 kit, or something smaller?

There seem to be rare examples of the C-54 with only a couple of cabin windows. I'm building one that's a flying refrigerator, and the cabin only has a couple of windows up front.

It doesn't seem to be an established sub variant. Built as C-54A-10-DC  s/n 42-72228.

I assume that one had windows.

Converted to DC-4, c/r NC90863.
