I currently have 5 of these kits in my stash with one being the Revell boxing (exact same kit). I sold 2 and now down to 5. This was part of Bandai’s Weekend Wing Series that they released in the early 70’s along with the Bonanza, Piper Cherokee 140, Super Cub, Cessna 150, 172, and the Subaru FA200. It’s interesting and welcomed that Minicraft, who now owns the molds, re-released a few of these with new beautiful decal sheets. The 150, 172, and Super Cub are particularly impressive and recommended. I’m still waiting for them to re-release the Mooney as well as the Subaru.
Anyway, the old Bandai release does not have a good decal sheet. In fact, you only get Japanese registration numbers. It’s up to you on how you want it painted or striped. The nice blue and green striping you see on the box art will have to be masked and painted. This is why I like the new Minicraft releases as they provide not only US Registration numbers, but great colorful striping if you don’t feel like painting. Yes, you will need to add nose weight, but be careful because like all the others, it includes a complete engine; so you may have to not include it to make room for the weight. The cabin is basic. You will want to add seatbelts and detail the instrument panel. It goes together quite nicely. It’s going to come down to how you paint/custom decal the exterior. An interesting note is that all these Weekend Wings Series each include the same pink colored sprue of 4 civilian figures, which would make a nice civilian airport diorama. I think 2 are standing passengers, a pilot, and a mechanic.
