nice work! the tamiya accent panel wash is indeed enamel-based. you’ll probably get away with it as long as you don’t use a lot of excess and wipe up immediately without use of thinner. But if you need to wipe off a good amount using enamel thinner, especially if the panel wash has dried, then you risk removing any enamel paint from underneath as well.

Hi;

 I have discerned your problem and it isn't yours. The decal, is a little bit wider top to bottom. This results in a fine line of the red above and below the windows. Look at the real plane. The red does NOT go below or above the windows. This is where the room for the Blue stripe went!

Thank you all for your kind comments and words of encouragement!  Those with a keen eye will immediately notice the lack of the thin blue stripe running the length of the fuselage.  Which leads me to a critique of the kit.  The blue stripe runs just below the wide red stripe on the fuse as shown in the picture.  But, following the painting scheme in the instructions, and looking at actual photos of where the white paint ends and the bare aluminum begins, and puttng the red stripe decal in line with the model's windows, there is not enough room for the blue stripe. I can't quite figure out where the problem is, using actual photos as my guide, I think I got the white exactly where it's supposed to be.  Oh well, next time I'll be more careful.  I did find the anti-glare decal, it's drying as I write this.

I have a question for you detail gurus. This kit was my first experience using Tamiya black panel line accent. I didn't notice till afterward it said not to use over enamel.... why? I thought it was acrylic.  Anyway, I used it over enamel, it is dry, and looks pretty good for a first attempt. And the panel line police did not come to arrest me.

Thanks again for your kind words.  On to the JAL DC8!

Ah! Beautiful job:

     That was a common sight at Buffalo N.Y. airport. But , the pilots that lived in the area called it the "Turbo-Plop". Sure enough, after three years one took out Dad's shop and our back yard!

    I have always loved that plane though.You did a nice job. I think over the years I've built four or five. Just like the looks of the Bird. Your model re-confirms that I was and still am right. She's Handsome!

      One thing that I particularly liked was the oval doors and the Semi" Malcom" cockpit area!

That looks great dude!  Really nice build.  I'm a big fan of the airliners, prefer the obscure liveries.  Well done my friend.

Thanks,

John

Looks good from my side of the screen!  I remember the Aurora liners and Revell ones.

Wish someone would bring them back--like Atlanits maybe.

I love it. I always liked that airplane. UAL got a bunch of them when they bought Capital.

We flew on them up and down the Eastern Seaboard.

I bought him a diecast metal model that I now have.

As many of you remember, I'm getting back into plastic models after a long absence.  I used to love airliners in particular, especially the series from Aurora. So, to get started again, I chose the Glencoe/Hawk Vickers Viscount.  Long story short, it didn't turn out very well, but I did learn (and re-learn) a lot of skills and techniques.  More on my thoughts about the kit later, but for now, a couple of pics of the finished product, minus the anti-glare decal on the nose in front of the cockpit windows. (I'll put it on when I find it! LOL)
