Just realized I have an older boxing of this kit in the stash.  Doing a hooters livery on mine.

Thanks,

John

Looking good.  I like to finish with a coat of future.   I have that 787 as well.  We should build it together.   Let me know when you start. This one is coming along nicely.  You picked a bit of a bear of a kit for your first airliner. Is recommend a something from hasegawas 1/200 line.

Thanks,

John

After a nice gloss coat of black primer, I laid down the aircraft aluminum using Vallejo Metal Color. After an obscene amount of masking, I laid down the light gray. Next will be more masking then I'll paint the upper fuselage and seal everything with a nice gloss.

Good evening my friends. Slow progress on this one. There is a ton of filler and wet sanding. So at this point I have removed all of the raised panel lines from all surfaces. Filled in the gap's with a combination of Milliput, squadron green putty, then a final smooth coat of squadron green putty. The glass up front has been contoured and sanded so it should actually look like flat panels of cockpit glass.  This is an early mould from Airfix and it definitely shows. But the overall look of the aircraft is very nice.  I will lightly scribe some panel lines in the primer coat prior to painting.

Cool!  Look at those sleek sexy engines.  Huge difference from the wide mouth flat bottom of today.  That's the right way to go with the glass, in fact I fill all the windows and use window decals. I have to check my stash, I may have one of these.

Thanks John!  So I ordered some decals from a company called Pointerdog7 and they include the windows!  I'm going with the old Aloha Airlines livery.

I will cover the cockpit glass with filler and use a decal for the front windows.

Yes, I think that might be a good move, going from the photo of the pointy end!  I've never built an airliner, the large areas of smooth white gloss have always been a bit intimidatingSmile

Thats my biggest concern here too! Indifferent

Thanks Jon.  I hope to learn something from this one.  I bought the Zvezda 747-800 but it was too intimidating to start on!

Looks like fun! Airliners are fun to model in my opinion. They're not complicated to build, but they are challenging to paint and finish. Be patient and be willing to wet sand. It will look great.

Hello friends. Time to dip my toes into the world of airline plastic. I'm starting off with this classic offering from Airfix. It's a bit of a pig but I think once I clean it up it'll make a decent representation of an early 737. First thing I'm going to do will be to sand off all of the raised panel lines to give this one a much cleaner appearance. I don't suspect I will be re-scribing any back so that'll make things a little easier. I will cover the cockpit glass with filler and use a decal for the front windows. The windows along the fuselage will probably be kept open but filled in with some PVA glue after final assembly.
