I'd like to build a NASA Sofia.

Eastern Express has one in 1/144. I don't know how good the kit is? or it's still available.

The 1/144 EE kit is brand new.  The price is a bit of a shocker though - Hannants shows it north of £100!  It is supposed to be a nice kit.  There was a vac kit as well IIRC.  Platz made a resin one in 1/200.  And lastly, FSM had an article to convert a standard 747 into an SP.

It's a neat looking 747 variant.  To bad the EE kit is so expensive.

Thanks, guys.  Since I am going to be hacking into it a lot, that conversion sounds like a real possibility.  I will have to search for that article.  Anyone remember the issue?

There's also a 747SP from Authentic Airliners, resin, 1/144 scale. Expensive  too, but AA's kits are probably the most accurate.

Don,

I have a 1/200 Platz resin B747SP.  PM me if you would like to use that as your base kit.  The link above apparently does have 1/200 decals for Sofia.

The Platz kit has a resin fuselage (hollow rotocast AND with the requisite amount of resin in the nose for proper balancing!), wings, stabs and engines.  The landing gear are metal with curious wheels that look like tiny metal washers!  I can post pics if you want a look.

The 747SP has been one of my favorites.  Would love to see a decent kit at a reasonable price.  A Sofia version would be wonderful!
