I have no experience with the Airfix 727 ... had tons of fun *cough* with their DC-9-30 kit when I made the mistake of trying to use the clear windows, and then discovering I only had enough for ONE side of the aircraft.
Your best bet for any airliner model question is www.airlinercafe.com. Due to the niche aspect of the modeling subjects, the volume on a specific topic is very limited compared to, say, the F-14 Tomcat. And some threads can be more than 10 years old.
Beware, almost all quests for accurate models involving major airliner manufacturers ends up at www.authentic-airliners.de. And in some cases, the 727 kit you inquired about is in this category, by accurate, something that isn't a misshapen lump of plastic with only a passing resemblence to the prototype. And I say beware because there will be some sticker shock.
Yes, a-a.de is german web site, but there is an english lanuage edition. And because livery is at least half of the quest, there is also www.authentic-airliner-decals.de. My obsession was the 707, and was determined to model the wing vortex generators, which are also on the 727. Well, there's a-a-decals product for that. One tip for ordering from either site, create a login first. The site implies you can order as a guest, but after much typing and clicking, then hitting 'paypal' (yes, paypal only as guest) nothing happens.
SAC makes metal landing gear, Brengun makes resin wheels that are very nice.

I always look at scalemates for every project I start, just to see what aftermarket is available. Even before I buy the kit, Scalemate shows some vendors and prices so I know what to expect with prices.
