Decals for Ford Trimotor seen in Public Enemy
Posted by bigbluejavelin on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 6:35 PM

Does anyone know of any decals available for the Monogram 1/77 model kit for the one used in the movie Public Enemy from 2009? I have 2 kits of this and want to do an Island Airlines version as that was the one that I had my first airplane ride in around 1976, and my daughter's first ride was in the one used in the 2009 movie Public Enemy around 2010, so I would like to do both versions as a commemoration of our first flights. Serendipitously, we both had our first rides in the co-pilots seat! Cost a bit more to pull this off for my dauhter as it was an extra $100.00, but it was worth it. I happened to be seated in the same spot that Johnny Depp was in during the movie. Cool as hell right? I am not afraid of spending on this build as it was such a milestone in both our lives.

Never having seen the film I had to do a bit-o-research, and came up with Eastern Air Transport.

Draw Decals does a set for the 1:72-ish Revellogram Ford Trimotor.

Greg Drawbaugh is a good guy.  Decals are printed to order.  Order direct from drawdecal.com.   Turn around in 10 days to 2 weeks.

Just what I am looking for! Thanks so much, I better order 2 sets just in case I screw one up. Also I think we should all support those that make this hobby awesome.

Draw decals, the entire sheet is decal carrier film.  Trim closely to the image to minimize film showing, especially on the trimotor corrugations.

Apply to a gloss surface.  Dip decal in water for 5 seconds, remove and wait for 30 seconds.  Draw's stuff releases that quick. They do work with microscale products

What a great project and you will be reliving those memories every step of the buildSmileYes

I don't know if these pics would be useful but here are some shots that I took in 2015 at the War Eagle museum in El Paso. Enjoy your build.

I think it is a shame that a good kit of the tri-motor is not on the market.  The Revell kit is okay, but the scale difference is enough that aftermarket engines look weird. The airfix kit has a problem with the struts that hold the engines.  I could not get them to point straight ahead.

Got the decals from Draw Decal the other day. They look really good. Hopefully, I will start on it this winter.

Good luck with this very special project!  I remember when Johnny Depp was in Oshkosh filming parts of this movie!
