The Soviet Army... 1991

I bought this little fellow at a yard/tag sale several years ago from a Russian immigrant. I thought that I'd post it here as it is (at least) a collector's item. I paid US$7 for it.

I had nothing to do with the construction/painting but he did explain to me that it is made out of a potato paste and is actually quite rigid. I did have to do some minor repairs and white glue did the trick. (The base is of unfinished wood.) It evidently survived its travels quite well. Very minor cracks on the groundwork were touched up in photoshop.

The base measures 4x4 inches (102x102 mm) by 5.5 in (140 mm) in height. It is marked as number 11 of 24, is signed by the creator and is dated: 11.09.91, right around the time of the SU breakup and was designed to depict that point in time... partial dismantling of the SS-20 system and removal (I believe) of the Pershing II from Europe and the switch to a free(er)-market society. (No politics to be discussed.)

A great item and discussion piece to have in my display case! Enjoy...

Thanks,
Kevin Keefe

I love it!

Looks like a big mac and a coke to symbolize change.....

You got a telegram from headquarters today. Headquarters--what is it? Well, it's a big building where generals meet, but that's not important right now. [ img] f_armorsecretm_ac7eb73[/ img]

Glad that you guys like it. It is really a neat thing to have and thanks for not objecting to me posting this here.

A Big Mac and a coke to symbolize the changes during the early '90's... you are correct.

Thanks,
Kevin Keefe
