WWII Gebirgsjager uniform coloring?
Posted by stikpusher on Sunday, September 21, 2008 3:05 PM
I have started building some Gebisjager figures. My references on these guys are minimal. I know most of their unforms and equipment was highly specialized and different from the standard Wehrmacht. Did they use a greener shade of Field Gray wool on the standard uniforms? What colors are the the wind jackets/pants, anoraks, leggings/gaiters, and canvas rucksacks? I have looked at online images, and the kit color recommendations just dont look proper or even close.

My sources show pretty much standard Heer feldgrau M-42 uniforms, Stik... There's a couple that look like the trousers are a darker feldgrau than the jackets, may even be a brownish grey (Italian, perhaps?) and the M-43 cap looks like it's SS Mausgrau, but I think it's just lighting.... I don't have a scanner or I'd post 'em and let you decide, since colors on computers are relative...  The Waffen-SS bergers look like all standard Mausgrau, with the elasticized puttees on the mountain boots..

At this point, I'd have to say, "your guess is as good as mine."...  I guess I didn't develope an interest in mountain troops since they aren't too popular (read: numerous) in the reenactment world...

Gebirgsjäger, 1943-44.

The light green Waffenfarbe didn't come through in the scan very well....

Thanks for all the posts and information guys! Now what about specialized mountain clothing: windproof pants and jackets, the reversable anorak? Photos and artwork tend to depict those as a sandy medium gray, similar to RLM02.

Looking there, I'd buy off on the RLM 02.  Maybe darken it just a skosh...
