1/72WWII Germans vs. Real Soldiers (from Reference Images) Part2
Posted by Panzer_Grenadire on Friday, November 28, 2008 2:48 AM

If in Part 1 I tried to reproduce soldiers from photos showing a single soldier, this time I chose groups.

All figures are Preiser and I converted them to look as close as I could with the true soldiers mixing body parts, heads, gear and weapons from all Preiser sets, a lot of scratchbuilds and also a G43 from Dragon.

First photo is one of the best showing WWII Germans wearing zeltbahns over uniforms. In addition, this photo also shows painted helmets as well as one of the nices unconventional poses of an MG gunner.

This photo features some interesting things, especially at gear, one ammo pouch of cloth at the first figure with MP40 and also the lack of ammo pouch at the soldier with shovel, despite the fact that he has on his back a MP40. It looks like these soldiers are a reconnesance team, many of them wearing binoculars, even regular soldiers having them.

The last photo shows some soldiers in an unplesant duty, arresting a civilian. I like their gear and poses, that can be used not to arrest a civilian like in the reference image, but an enemy or a desertor. Also they have very good poses for escorting prisoners.

This photo shows the above two soldiers arresting a desertor that I took from Imex set.

Here is the MG gunner which pose can be seen in the first image. The MG is also Preiser with scratchbuit strap.

I think this is one of the best photos I have ever taken of a figure of mine. Of course, I like not only the image, but also the pose and details of the figure.

I hope you enjoyed these photos and any opinion or suggestion is highly welcome. If you want to see the soldiers from Part 1, you can do it here:

That's some pretty amazing detail you've got goin' on for 1/72, Cristian. Real nice, and I like the posing against the real images concept.

I like very much reference images and for a very long period I wanted to make some figures that would look closer to the poses of the real soldiers. I do not understand why most of mass production manufacturers of 1/72 WWII Germans do not take reference images into consideration and continue to invent flat poses. From the long list of such manufacturers two pay attention to the images and also have great sucess, namely Preiser and Pegasus Hobbies.

Once more, thank you very much Steve.

I always tried to show to 1/35 fans that even in the 1/72 scale can be achieved some good results and I am very glad that you liked them. In addition, I chose this scale because requires less space and also is cheaper....Smile [:)]
