Yes, the oil makes them shine, so now I'm painting darker shades of the uniform color into folds. Another thing you might try to liven em up is to take a lighter variant of the base coat (a light gray works wonders for feldgrau) and line edges of pockets, collars, etc. To make them look worn/frayed.
I've startedgetting serious about my figures, so any tips you pick up here, I might borrow!

You may have hit on a good point with the sheen, The officer looks like a bronze statue!  I use acrylics with a oil wash, I think this makes things dirtier! I believe in dirt...5 min in the field, your dirty!

They look pretty good, especially for a larger scene. Some close ups would help. Looks like the buttons on at least some of the enlisted men are the same color as the tunic. Is that correct or should they be black or dark steel? Some of the pics looks like some glossiness, but that could be the lighting. What are you using for paints? Are you doing a wash and dry brushing or are you painting in the highlights and shadows? The latter method will give you better effects when mastered.
