DML 10th Mountain Division
Posted by ww2modeler on Thursday, January 29, 2009 4:46 PM

Does anyone know if it would be possible to convert this kit to Marines in Korea, 1950-51? I know that the 1st Marine division was under Army Command at this time so I thought maybe they would have gotten some of that equipment.

Thanks,

David

DML already did a set of 1950 US Marines, Chosin Resivoir. It does not appear to be currently available. Some of the equipment used was the same: web gear, rifles, helmets, shoepacs (cold/wet weather boots) but some was not. The parkas were different, as were the trousers. Cold Weather gear had improved somewhat between the wars, mainly as a result of the 1944/45 winter fight in Europe. I dont believe that the Marines used the Mountian Rucks.

Oh yes, about the helmets, in Korea, the Marines used their tradmark camo covers, while the 10 Mountain never did.

The 10th Mountain figures would convert easily into some 1st Special Service Force troops, as they were equipped nearly identically. A few weapon supstitutions such as the Johnson LMG/Rifle from Dragon's Allied weapon set would do that.

Okay, thanks. I was wondering because I have the Tamiya M26 kit and was thinking about doing a Korea diorama with that kit. Would regular Army troops look the same as WWII?

Some WWII figures will work, others wont. The main differences are field jackets and boots. No canvas leggings used by Army troops, although the Marines still used them up until fall 1950 at least. No helmet netting on Army troops was seen in Korea in any photo I can recall.
