1/9 Modern Navy SEAL (full figure) Kit
Posted by modelchasm on Friday, January 30, 2009 12:56 PM

Just thought I share some information about a new kit from TnT Military Miniatures that getting ready to be released.

It's a 1/9 Modern US Navy SEAL figure, set in Iraq. to be put on the waiting list for it, shoot an email to: info@specialopsmodels.com

To see a pic of the model, go to: www.mb-miniatures.com/port/index.php?news

This is a pretty good model if you're on a modern figure "kick" like me. Can't wait for mine to come....Propeller [8-]

1/9?! Holy crap! He looks real pretty though Laugh [(-D] jk, but seriously...

...wow- right down to the drainage gromits on the pistol mag pouch! I'm sure he's pricey, can't wait to see you start up on it, always been a SEAL fan. The M4 looks a little old school, some of the MODERN modern SEALs use weapons that don't have the carry handles, are covered in picatinny rails and the stocks look a bumped out like the one some of these guys are carrying link

But being that it still looks more up to date than some of the 1/35 "modern" kits with old 90's M16s (I guess the Marine's are still issued these as they preffer the long rifle?) it still looks like a win to me!

Yea, I actually thought the same thing when I saw the M4. I never worked with SEALs, but ODA that I worked with only a few of them prefered the M4 .... with modifications of course. I was thinking of trying to modify a SPEC OPS M14 (either that or an MP5 of some version) made for one of those BIG 1/6 figures. Would the scales be way off? Or might I be able to "widdle" it down to look right?

I may pick up this figure when it comes out, but I doubt that I will be starting it soon. I've got a few others on shelf that I've started that I need to finish up first. But, then again, I started those while working on others .... why is modeling so EVIL!!! Mischief [:-,]

I'm still not sold on buying it though. 1) I don't know the price. 2) I'm not sure how I feel about the pose. And 3), Do I really want one, single, 1/9 model among all the other 1/16 (120mm) in the case? Maybe I could pass it off as that one BIG guy that seems to be in every unit!?!

I'm not sure about the 1/6 scale- I'm sure you could widdle it down, but I'm just wondering if- once it's in scale- it would still be of any use or if it would just look like an "in scale" chunk of resin you'd then have to remold over anyway.

I think if your talking about doing one of those M-14 EBR kits- it's really nothing more than a reciever, a barrel and a light skeletal system you could probably make out of aluminum/brass tubes, some sheet styrene with some holes punched/drilled out and some epoxy depending on your level of patients

The price was one of the things I was worried about- I didn't even ask you how much it was because I knew it'd out of MY range haha

Do I really want one, single, 1/9 model among all the other 1/16 (120mm) in the case? Maybe I could pass it off as that one BIG guy that seems to be in every unit!?!

hahaha this made me laugh- I'm sure you could pass him off- he's not quite twise as big right? haha

Yeah, it's a nice kit- no doubt about that, whether or not you get it. I think the biggest issue would be price in my book. He does kind of look like... I don't know he's directing traffic? I'm sure you could make it look like he's trying to direct a POW or something,

I think as far as the difference in scale, I mean it'd be a step out of your comfort zone and maybe you could stick it in it's own case due to it's height? Good points to concider though.

I've never been an OOTB type of guy any ways. If the kit comes resin, which I'm sure it will, I'll probably hack it up and pose it that way I want. And yes, I was thinking about the EBR kit. I'll probably get one of those 1/6 rifles off ebay, and then mess with it from there.

All this 1/6 figure talk is keeping me from starting a post on my OIF figure ... I'll get to it later tonight. I'm finally done with the face, so I'm at a god stopping point to load up pictures.

Guess I'd better work on what I've got ... this one's not even in the mail yet!?!

Yeah, I enjoy hacking up plastic figures (1/35) as they're cheaper and easier for me to repose- if I invest in a 1/35 resin figure- it's either because of the pose or because of the subjet- something I can't get in plastic, etc.

In 1/16 scale it's the same thing- I might not like the pose too well- but I don't usually have spare parts when it comes to limbs... I usually just cut apart limbs and use filler- but I try and not reinvent the wheel, if I have a spare arm in the pose I want- I'll just swap them out.

Take your time with the pictures- I'm always slow at the build- let alone the actual pictures from it! haha hope I'm not holding you up with all this back and forth Smile [:)]

Just heard back from the guy this afternoon. This SEAL model is coming out of casting as we speak. He's painting the first run right now, getting ready for a show in Atlanta.

If anyone around that area is going to a show soon, look for Andrew Meyer's 1/9 SEAL figure!

Yeah, it's kind of a bummer. He even said that they were trying to keep the price down. Hmmm....

***FYI UPDATE***

So, I just got an email letting me know that this figure was a BIG hit at an Atlanta show the other week. So, the artist has decided to go ahead with production. Guess he got numerous requests. I'm not sure what the final price is going to be, but hopefully since he got numerous requests it'll go down a little.

Here's some pics from the show that he sent me.

He said the release will be in a couple more weeks. The wife has "ok'd" the early birthday present ... so, even though it's expensive, I think I'm going to go for it.

Very cool! Hm... not that I'm any better off at it- but the "green" color looks a little too pale green on his version. Again, I've never been able to really nail it dead on and it's such a hard tash because it's so close to the background it almost blends in with sand anyway...

But I love the base work and the flesh tone looks nicer than anything I've ever done. Over all I can definitly understand why it was a big hit- I agree that the corrispoinding possible price hit would be really nice.

haha I think the Calico Jack is one of my favorite parts Cool [8D]

yeah i agree with you p.o. about that green. again if you want to "nail it" (as u said i did) use humbrol beige green with a drop of olive drab! closest thing i've come to the real thing. but yeah, the flesh looks good as well as the base. unfortunately, all i see now when i see the larger scale figures is ol' doc model there grinding its joints with a hacksaw!! Yeah, I looked at the figure for awhile wondering about the colors. I may turn this SEAL into another Army fig ... tackling the ACU in yet another, more detailed pattern. We'll see. I'm looking forward to getting my "raid" dio finish before this one even gets purchased!

Thanks camo! I'll definitly try that out- I'm not sure if you nailed it or not... as I've never really seen anyone get it "dead on"- but that's definitly the closest I've seen in a while. So thanks a lot for the mix.

hahaha but yeah- I'll never look at figures the same way again. Actually I don't really like how the M4 is dropped- If I was telling someone to stand down, I'd be Censored [censored] sure I was pointing my weapon at them! I guess tilting that right hand up a bit isn't really that much of a change in comparison though haha

More ACU?! Oh my! I'm not sure if the huge size would make the detail easier to paint, or harder to get right lol

Yea, I know ... I had thought about doing it in the tri-colored uniforms, but dang it if he didn't beat me too it. Someone's got to be the first to try it in ACU!?!

And yes .... someone has to be the first to CHOP HIM UP !!!! AAAAHHHH HAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!

(ok, its not THAT much fun ... ok ... it is .... )
