Really interesting find.  They kind of make Nazi threat seem more recent and tangible.  Some of those pictures look like they could have been taken last year.

I gotta admit, the Nazis knew how to dress... The parade dress and walking-out dress uniforms are just too damn sharp.. To quote Trevor Howard in The Great Escape.. "Slap your gloves on your thigh, padre, strut a bit more... Style! That's what the bloody Boche have, Padre, Style!"

A US Marine in dress blues is at least as impressive as anything the Germans had.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

They sure did, Hugo Boss made some of those uniforms:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Boss

"The all-black uniform of the Nazi Schutzstaffel paramilitary force from 1932 until 1945 was designed by SS-Oberführer Prof. Dr. Karl Diebitsch and Walter Heck (graphic designer) and made by the Hugo Boss company, some workers being prisoners of war forced into labor.[1][2]

In the third quarter of 1933, Hugo Boss, the founder of clothing company, designed black uniforms for Heinrich Himmler's SS, to replace the SA brown shirts. He also designed the Hitler Youth uniforms.[3][4]"

Sorry, fat guys in riding boots and pants don´t do nothing for me. I could tell you what my dress blues did for me but as this is a public forum I´ll refrain. I will agree that a grenadier in camo with a MG 42 standing in front of a Tiger  is an impressive sight though. But, after all, who gave us our name? Teufel Hund...

German uniforms, including those of the SS, and the Waffen-SS, were the logical conclusion of the uniform development in the old Imperial army, through the Reichswehr to the Thirties.  Both the SS and original black Panzer uniforms, for example, owed much to the uniform of the old Leibgardehusaren regiments, who were also elite units in the Imperial army.  And the standard Waffenrock owe much to the "future peacetime uniform", developed in the Imperial army just before the outbreak of the First World War.  That design foresaw returning some traditional characteristics to the field gray uniform, such as adding collars and cuffs in traditional regimental/divisional/state colors to the field gray tunic, with patches carrying lace or traditional unit badges.

As to the Marines' dress uniform, their uniform is also the modern culmination of the evolution of uniforms from the end of the 18th century to the 1940's.

I think they're equally sharp.

Those may all be sharp, but if you want to hit the town and have the ladies flock to you you'll need the Navy Crackerjack Dress Blues baby!

I don't think anyone can argue, they were snappy dressers! Just plain sharp.

The entire country of Germany was a bit nuts for uniforms back then. They had uniforms for everybody including civilians.

See, what they were doing was the norm in vintage scifi, they were working their way not only to a supreme pure race, but a single uniform that every single person could wear for all ocassions

Gotta call 'ya on that one Hans.  The movie you are thinking of is Vons Ryans Express, with cranky Franky.  I still laugh when the two Taifuns strafe the train- werent they unarmed ?
