Well there is also lead foil Hans. And you can cut it to any width you like and also holds its shape well too.

Sure, lead foil's out there.. Nothing wrong with it either, it's just that I can get 10 yards of the aluminum duct tape in one shot, and the sticky back is a plus when it comes to use as sling material, as well as belts, suspenders, chinstraps, seat harnesses, etc..

For more modern slings ... those that are more of the woven material type ... I like using masking tape. Take a piece, fold it in half on itself, and then use a new 11 blade to cut the width you need.

Masking tape isn't as form-keeping as the foil, but I think that it works well.

My two cents.

Depends on the era WWI and WWII saw the use of leather slings same with Korea. Modern era sees the use of a type of canvas type sling moving onto Nylon fabric slings. Aluminum duct tape might work for a modern rifle sling though.

Thanks for the suggestions gentlemen,
At 1/8th scale would lead or aluminum tape look right? Shouldn't the sling have some sort of web texture? Can that even be replicated?

just wondering,

Creating Rifle Sling
Posted by RogueJ on Friday, April 24, 2009 3:33 PM
Looking for some advise. I'm building a 1/8th scale figure that needs a rifle sling. Does anybody have any suggestions on fabricating such a sling at this scale? Any advise would be appreciated.

thanks in advance,
Rogue
