Need help finding a 1/48 figure.
Posted by New Hampshire on Sunday, April 26, 2009 6:49 PM

I have googled my little fingers off so I figure this is a last resort, but perhaps someone might actually be able to help me.  I am looking for a 1/48 scale Air Force Special Policeman (as my Uncle always informs me "MP's are Army, SP's are Air force" Big Smile [:D]) figure dressed in late 70's early 80's gear/garb.  I want to make a special base for the FB-111A kit I bought to build him (he was an Air Force SP at PLattsburgh from 1978 to I think '83 ).  Is there any hope????

Think that's an Air Cop in the Hasegawa 1/48th "US Ground Crew" figure set... The one standing between the huffer and th' generator in the pic...

Glad to help... I figured he's an Air Cop since the beret and bloused combat boots are evident and, as an Air Force Brat, I spent a few hours here & there with the base APs from time to time... Seems those Air Scouts get upset when 10-year-olds jump fences near armed aircraft (or any aircraft, for that matter)... Big Smile [:D]

Later on, after I joined the Army, I also learned that they don't like Army NCOs in their base clubs either... Apparently they got annoyed by us (at least at Pope AFB) when we did PLFs off the tables and such...

Heh heh, I could imagine them wing dings don't like GI Joes running round stealing their glory Big Smile [:D] .  My Uncle followed in my grandfathers footsteps.  Grandpa was a mechanic on Guam during WW2 (he was waiting for his transfer to the pilot training course to come through when the war ended).  My Uncle wound up joining too.  Spent his time at Plattsburgh AFB mostly freezing his butt off in the frigid winters on guard duty for the nukes.  He always breaks out the stories when we are out fishing, and the funniest is typical of military thinking.  He was an M-60 gunner, and he said they issued him a .38 revolver.  I asked what the revolver was for...I mean you do have a 7.62 NATO SAW your carrying around.  His response: "They gave it to me so that if the M-60 stopped working I could shoot it with the .38 so it did not fall into enemy hands" (what enemy he would find in the heart of Upstate NY I don't know) Big Smile [:D] Big Smile [:D]

That's ok Hammer, I didn't care very much for that beret.

As a suggestion, don't paint the figure in camoflaged fatigues.  They didn't start issuing them to stateside cops until the mid to late 80s, and then they were the B.D.U.'s.  Up to that point the only cops wearing cammies were in S.E.A.  Here's a sample:

Dover A.F.B. aircraft security, 1973:

Littlerock A.F.B. mid 70s:

S.E.A. Korat 1974 Law Enforcement/Air Base Defense:

For a long time the only cops wearing a beret was K-9, and then for a time only in S.E.A.

The only cops to wear them before that I'm aware of were the guys in Safeside.
