Scarecrow - trying a new modeling genre
Posted by Mike H. on Monday, May 25, 2009 11:15 PM
With my workbench uprooted due to my basement construction, I'm trying some figure painting to pass the next two months.  I've been inspired by Games Workshop's Golden Demon competitions and it gave me the itch big time to try this.  I normally build automotive subjects.

This is where I'm at presently.  Hopefully I can get some better pics taken.  I'm still working on getting everything blended together.  It's been slow going between house projects.

interesting mike. you should check out the dio forum. the doog just posted a dio using a scarecrow scenario!! while i like his dio your scarecrow has a much more menacing aura! nicely done! i probably would've maybe had some blood on/dripping off the sabre...but that's me! Thumbs Up [tup]

Looks good, pretty freaky.  If I may suggest, I agree with the blood suggestion, but not to much, just a bit of clear red along the blade of the scythe.  Also, give the cape a nice dull coate (maybe its just the flash) but it looks glossy from here and doesnt seem to fit.

thanks for the input guys.  I do intend to put a final dull coat on everything.  The color I used for the cape is a flat, but for some reason is glossing up.  Perhaps due to the oil paints & washes.  I'm still working on clothing, but thanks for the blood idea.  I plan to make this guy in to a peanut butter lid diorama.
