NEVER use black as a wash except against very dark gray, it's way too stark. In fact, at 1/16, you should try to avoid washes altogether and work on blending (oils) or layering (acrylics) to get shadows and highlights.
You have a good base flesh color but you should try working on highlights and shadows to liven him up. He looks like a department store mannequin (The pose you were given doesn't help.) Here's one of the best faces I've ever seen. It's a new bust from Young Miniatures.
Note the various shades of skin across the face. When adding highlights and shadows, don't forget the hands. You want shadows between the fingers and these should continue up in a less stark version between the bones in the hands. There should be highlights on the fingers with the hihest light on the knuckles. The highlights also should continue up the hand along the ridge of the bones. A good sculptor will have this in his figure's hands.
Smeagol is right about the lips, you need a slightly different color. Citadel "tanned flesh" acrylic works really well for this.
