Yeah, I'm pretty much not interested in other sports until October. i look forward to football season starting because it means hockey is right around the corner!

Thanks for all the positive feed back! Workin on several other projects (C-47 and an RSO with Pak 40) so you'll see me around. Thanks again!

Haha, this is generating more activity than I anticipated when I first posted this! Modeling and hockey, combining the best of both worlds!

Detroit has definitely built a strong team in recent years. I was pulling for them in the Finals, though it has taken me a while to forgive them for sweeping the Flyers out of the finals in '97. Oh well, there's always next year...

Yes, even in the land of Opie Taylor there are Wings fans (transplanted).  Nice work on the figure, a few points that could be different, but for what it is, VERY cool.

i wouldnt repaint him unless you feel you should. just what ya did alone makes it nice. yes, we both share a pasionate love for the game and a tremendous loathing of the worst player to ever lace up the skates! anyway, i wouldnt redo it...you did a nice job and even though i love my wings...not everyone does. if your interested though, you can buy decal paper at places like bare metal foil & micro-mart...just to name a couple. im sure there are more. only problem is printers dont print white...so you cant do any "white" decals...also while i used the micromart decal sheets...to me they were too "thick" and difficult to adhere without using a solution to "help it"!

Camo,

Good to know we share the same passion for hockey and the same loathing for Crosby! What kind of software and paper are necessary to print decals like that?

Ajfleche,

That is a good idea! I'll have to try that out. Maybe this nameless Oiler will become a Red Wing after all...

Resize this in your word program as you would clip art, print at high resolution on white paper, cut carefully and apply with thinned white glue, seal with airbrushed Testors' Dullcoat.

THANK YOU!!! now rather than getting political...my brother has one of those table hockey games and i painted all of his players for him. he bought a bunch of guys so we had red wings, toronto, philly, pitts, san jose, & colorado. i made the team decals for all of them. made them at work on my cad software and printed them on our plotter. the guys really look good and he gets so many compliments everytime someone wants to play!! basically, if u did lidstrom (a real captain not that piece of worthless nhl $%^&$%^& crosby) the wheel wouldnt be that hard...i made mine very believeable!!! doesnt matter though, i know you dont want to change it but im just saying...!

I'm a Flyers fan so I share the same heartache as you Bruin and Wings fans. I was going to make the figure either Gretzky or Messier, hence the Oilers colors. Tell you the truth, I even thought about making him Lidstrom from the Wings but I'd probably have a seizure trying to hand paint the 'winged wheel'! And I don't have the resources to create my own decals, otherwise that would have been a neat option. I guess in the end, I should have made him a Penguin but I don't know if I could stomache that!

Local legend has it that a player with ties to Western Massachusetts once brought the cup to a local institution, a strip club!

when was the last time a bruins team won the cup? really just curious. thought they'd have won it this year...its too bad "cindy" (even my tears cant sustain me) crosby won it...ahhh...now im gonna get politcal so i'll just stop right here!! Whistling [:-^]

To be honest, I have absolutely no idea when the Bruins last won the championship, or were in the running for the playoffs. They could fold and I wouldn't even notice. I'm just joking around on a Friday morning. Waiting for the work day to end because it's vacation time next week.

wow...ok thank you for proving my point in my first post ajlafleche!! (no offense). they were in the playoffs this year...they had a very good team...but obviously you dont care...which is ok... Wink [;)]

Hockey fans? 1/35 scale stanley cup
Posted by oddmanrush on Friday, June 19, 2009 12:18 AM

Hi all,

Hope the pics turn out this time. This is a 1/35 scale hockey player hoisting the Stanley Cup. It was my entry into a contest featured on an NHL blog in which the contestents had to create a Stanley Cup replica without using tin foil. Naturally, as a modeler, joining this competition was a no brainer and gave me the opportunity to try things I've never done before.

The player was a modern U.S. Infantryman from Dragon converted into a circa 1980's Edmonton Oiler, minus the name and logo of course. I had to reposition his arms and fashioned his entire uniform out of milliput. He is hand painted (if you couldn't tell...) The cup itself is made out of 3 sections of wooden dowel shaped with a Dremel tool. My father helped me in that respect as my mind and drawn a blank as to what material I should use to make the Cup. Any how, I then painted it silver and gave it a nice gloss coat. Some spare aircraft decals resemble the inscriptions. Lastly, the base is simple; made from foam core and it too received a gloss coat after I painted the lines and such.

I admit, I was not entirely focused on the figure as much as the cup so any tips or advice is plenty welcome! I don't fancy myself a figure modeler, I dabble mostly in aircraft and armor. Turns out I didn't win the contest, not even an honorable mention. Oh well, life goes on. Figured I post it here where at least some one might appreciate it! Thanks.

PS - excuse the quarter in the one picture, I used that to show scale for the contest.
