Thanks man. If you guessed the challenge for Gimli was his beard. Dwarfs are different and fun to paint actually... at least for me.

Not a problem about the posting thing. I understand this a military modellers hangout. I used to post my military stuff here and get good response. Now I just love my LOTR minis. Ahh..I've decided to paint my Bilbo Baggins next and maybe add some Bagend scene.

Cheers;-)

I've done WIP videos of Aragon  and Gimli but I can't post them here. All my pictures are arranged in stages in the video and you can see the transition from beginning to end.

Here's one picture of the painted figures together.

You can see my Aragon WIP on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTSaY2ZK1RM

while my Gimli WIP here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEeb_xvGOqY

Hope you like it. Peace.Wink [;)]

Thanks man.

Yes, Legolas was staying with Silvian elves of  Mirkwood but his father Thanduil and him were originally from Lindon. They were actually Sindar or GreyElves. Yes, the Silvian elves of Mirkwood probably had brown hair but Legolas was not of the same heritage. Lol... it's just fiction:) ..but a good one no doubt.

I chose the Legolas hair to be blond since I've painted my Aragorn and Gimli in their respective hair colours as well. The trio just have a nice  overall colour range when viewed together.

Anyway, I've got a few characters more to play with. I think I'll paint Bilbo or Gandalf next. I'm hoping to post some more WIP soon. PeaceSmile [:)]

It looks very good, you have any other lotr figures your going to do?

And about the hair, they never mention his, but I think they mention the hair color of the wood elves in mirk/green wood being brown

You're almost right on the hair. The hair colour cannot be found his hair colour in Tolkien's writing. There's three diferent adaptations of his hair colour dark, silver or blond perhaps brown as you stated, so none of the interpretations are wrong actually. But no matter. Thanks for highlighting that. It made me look thru my LOTR books again;-)

Some more pictures of what I have done.

I made the base with a tree made of putty and wireframe..

Then I painted it and added some dried moss.

Here's the figure mounted on the base.

BTW I have compiled all the WIP pictures and made them into a video on YouTube:

Hope you guys like it.;-)

Ahh, because you know, if you follow his heritage, he should have brown hair, not blond, the movie was wrong. (looks great though)

Here's as promised are the next batch of pictures.

Yeah, Smeagol, the hair was not painted yet in the previous post. It's just the lighting. Sorry.

Here's all the base colours painted.

The highlights and shade are in in this picture.

Here's the work on the cloak and quiver.

I'll post a video on the WIP on the next so that you can see how everything progress.[-)

WIP Legolas in 28mm
Posted by red1 on Sunday, June 28, 2009 12:16 AM

Hi everyone. Its been a long while since I posted something here. I've been painting and collecting LOTR minis for a while now. So here's my WIP pictures.

Here's a my Legolas figure in pictures. After a black undercoat, I drybrush white to locate the highlights.

I use Basic Skintone from Vallejo Model Color as the basecoat for flesh.

Next I add white to the basecolour as highlights and use dark flesh as shade.

After blending the highs and lows this is how it looks like. I will touch-up on the face again as I go along.

Okay, that's what I can post at the moment. I will post the next WIP pictures this evening. Comments are welcomed throughout.Wink [;)]

Thanks for reading this. Peace to all :)
