I think a company named "Hornet" or something like that did some figures from that period, including a Billy Bishop.  Not sure about the scales, though.

lancair have you checked michigan toy soldier co.? just google if ya havent. not sure they have what your looking for but its probably a good bet they do.

I've looked and looked and looked and can't find anything resembling what I'm after.
