...no way! Huge Ron Volstad fan- Dragon figure kit box art is what started me up with dioramas... well that and Shep Paine's book... haha yeah I'd say that's one way to answer the rifle question. Didn't think Ron would mess that up Thumbs Up [tup]

Ron Volstad does the artwork for many Osprey and Concord books as well as for many of Dragon's figure sets. If you compare among the three you will notice his distinctive style. His artwork is based upon through research.

The weapon in question the is the Gewehr 41 (M). It proved to be a rather unsuccessful design and fewer than 7000 were produced. Hochgebirgsjaeger Batalion 4 was equipped with these in Italy (the inspiration for this figure set) and is confirmed in period photos.

A Google search will present a few images of this rifle.

 HTH,

Ron Volstad

Chris: I doubt it is for the grenadelauncher. It was a further attatchment, on the boxart and the lower (CAD) drawing, it is like the muzzle itself is fat.

It may just be an illusion, but it looks like that on the CAD picture Draong has, it looks like the end of the bolt on the K98 makes a big jump in the air and goes steeply down...

You see it goes more smoother on the bolt end there... Doesen't make that big jump..

As said, may be an illusion..

I'd still like to know that fat muzzle..  Like, just to know why? Gebirgsjäger only addition?

And why have extended magazined on the boxart, but not in the kit?

Perhaps some kind of rifle grenade attachment?

Don't know about the magazines though... I haven't known Volstad to mess up, but the fact that they are not included in the lower picture makes one wonder...

well I can see what you mean about the end of the muzzle, but what's wrong with the end of the bolt?

Well, they are most definitly NOT semi automatics because of the bolt action.

But I don't think it is a Karabiner 98 Kurz. Comeon, the muzzle is very thick, and the end of the bolt is very... well, non K98 looking..

The rest look like a K98

But why the extended magazines in the boxart, and not in the CAD drawings?

No, both of the rifles are Kar98ks, you can see the bolts on each one.

Thanks, Jim.

I was refering to the guy with the signalpistol. It looks like a Semi because of the magazine. Now I realized the bolt, so it is a bolt action rifle..

But the other rifleman on the boxart got a magazine...?  But not in the CAD picture? And why is the muzzel of the barrel so damn thick, and the bolt a little different from the K98??

Weird.. Anyone?

What you say looks like a G43, actually looks more like the Russian semi-auto (not sks) from the late war period, can't remember the name of it thoBanged Head [banghead]

Ah yes, that's right- but still- loading a flare into a 1/35 pistol is some nice mold work if the hands all look right and everything lines up in the end.

Man- I have a few Italy dios lined up, sure enough just got a few Dragon figure kits to fit the bill- now it looks like I'll need to get another one down the road. Probably will be better off as I'm sure this will be pretty pricy if it's Gen2 (which it looks like) right off the bat. Guess I'll have to wait for the price to drop and my current stash of Germans in Italy dwindles... Disapprove [V]

...is that one guy actually loading a revolver?! Crazy the detail they're putting in these guys now... I hope they go back and start releasing new Vietnam era Gen 2 figures, I own more than half of the sets from their Nam series and unfortunately they show their age.
