A couple notes regarding SF uniforms in Afghanistan- Grooming regs were relaxed at the beginning of OEF,, this was to better associate witht he local tribesman for cultural reasons. Tommy Franks, CENTCOM CINC, in his autobiography ordered that the only item of US unform required wearing was DCU pants, to conform to Geneva rules. (of course I dont think the Taliban or Al Quida are signatories) Several friends of mine who were with 19th SFG (my old unit a LONG time ago) and sent back pics during their tours showed them in BDU or DCU pants with local headgear and shirts, coats, etc... another commonly seen item worn was the black fleece jacket that was originally issued to be worn under the Gore Tex parka but has seemed to be worn often as an outer garemnt in cold dry climates/weather. So dont get wrapped up too tightly on the uniform shirt coat colors.

Looking good... before you can repaint the jacket as recommended by the peers, be sure to remove the seam as it is still visible on the right arm.  Maybe it is the dark paint that is causing it to be very visible.  And just have fun!

Here is the original Michael Roberts box art for this figure:

Grim - You're good on the beard and the head gear. SF will try and blend in with most fo the culture ... remember too that most (well, maybe not most ... but most that we work with) foriegn country armys actually wear old US uniforms (ie chocolate chips, desert tri color, and now even the woodland), so SF will typically wear these too. They are still US uniforms! But you're correct as well in eye-balling the "jumper" suit. Its basically just a modified flight suit. A lot of guys like'm ... I still like the good ol DCUs.

Is this one for your dio, or is it going toward something else?

thanks MC. I have been building this one for around 3 months. Definately taking my time with it.

I'm sort of basing it on a couple of pics i have of Green Beret soldiers in Afganistan. The all seem to have the desert trousers on, with desert tops, but most seem to have a jumper or jacket on with those hats and scarves. Just trying to make it look a bit different.

Just got the hands, face and slings to go!

Grim - Nice job thus far. The only things that I would say are this:

Take you time with your figures. Don't get in such a hurry to BUILD them, but rather keep some things seperated until your done with painting. I ALWAYS keep my heads (and other flesh colored parts) off the model until they are done. This way, you don't get other paints on them. Plus its just easier to paint them that way.

Do a little more research in what clothing SF actually wear. From the dress, your figure should be placed in Afghanistan. Also from experience, while SF do wear some modified uniforms, they MUST wear a US uniform per Geneva. However, it's an easy fix. Just repaint your blue coat to match the trousers. Fixed.

That's all I can give for now .... However, I'll be following this one!
