Hello

I'm trying to build my first figures. I'm using Tamiya (35192) US Army Assault Infantry and Dragon (6378) US Army Tank Riders kits. But I'm confussed about green colour. Because Tamiya offers XF51 Khaki Drab and Dragon offers Model Master 1764 European Green for jackets. XF51 is too dark and 1764 is too green. Could you give me an advise espicially Vallejo ? Also you can give information about what Vallejo colours for WWII US Soldiers' all clothes and equipments on Europe. Forgive me about my English.

Thank you.

This place is one of the best sites I've ever seen for a guide to painting WW2 US Army uniforms..

I'm not sure about the Tamiya figures, but the Dragon Tank Riders are late war and wear M1943 jackets.  I use Vallejo 893 US Dark Green for the base, 886 Green Gray for highlights, and 979 Camo Dark Green for shadows.  For webbing I use 998 Khaki as the base, 819 Iraqui Sand for highlights, and 872 Chocolate Brown for shadows. I use shades of brown for the boots.  Steel helmet I use either 889 Olive Drab or Tamiya xf-62 Olive Green.  Oh and buttons on the webbing are 889 OD.  Hope this helps!

Also, Pants are either shades of dark green or 873 Field Drab with Iraqui sand for highlights and Chocolate brown for shadows.  As a general rule of thumb, if the pants have cargo pockets, paint them OD.

Vallejo has some colors specific to US colors:

#70889: USA Olive drab

#70922: USA Uniform

#70893: USA dark green

I would suggest starting with the uniform color, and lighten and darken from there for highlights and shadows.

Good luck,
