Model Cellar 1/6 Quapaw Chief finished.
Posted by New Hampshire on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 8:34 PM

After my two best ideas for a Christmas present for my mother were dashed thanks to my father I decided to go to the old standby....make her something!  She has always been interested in Native American culture, etc. so I decided to take Model Cellars 1/6 Quapaw Chief, which comes with a small, but cheesy base, and turn it into an ornament.  I still have to drill a hole in the top of his head to add an eye screw and then saw off the nub intended to go into the base, but for all intents and purposes it is done:

So, how do you folks think it turned out?  Anything need fixing before I box it up and wrap it?

Looks good Brian.  Should make a unique ornament.

Thanks Rick!

This was my first large scale project (Previously I have only worked with 1/35 figures) and I found it to be very enjoyable.  So not only did I get a great gift out of it, but I had fun doing it as well!  What more could I ask for!  Big Smile

Thanks Gamera!

I got it all finished up with an eye in his head.  I am actually quite proud of myself for this.  You see, I could not find a screw eye small enough for my tastes anwheres local.  So I had a brainstorm.  I dug a worm hook out of my tackle box and snipped the shank just before the bend so that I had about 3/8 an inch and 2 barbs to sink into the top of the head.  I drilled out a slightly undersized hole and tapped it in.  Between the friction fit and the barbs it is in there solid, no superglue required!

What a wonderful and unique gift for your Mom!  As a parent I can promise you she will cherish it always.

Happy Holidays!
