1/35 Finished Modern Sniper Vignette w/ WIP photos
Posted by psstoff995 on Thursday, December 31, 2009 1:34 PM

This was for an online contest on a different forum, now that it's over I feel comfortable posting it up here for everyone else to see. Also this was my first time using oils for the skin tone. I'm happy with it but it needs some work for sure.

It did much better than I thought, just losing out by a vote for a 3rd place tie. There were some great builds involved.

I kitbashed some dragon figures together to get them looking like the two snipers in this photo I got off the internet.

Here's how it went-

Kitbashing

Base/Groundwork/Paint

Finished

EDIT- Also check out Scott's winning contest build-

**Might have to copy and paste link into new window/tab

Nicely done. Its interesting to see the two different vignettes from the same photograph.

Thanks! And I agree, he was right down to the wire and had been away so I had no idea how close he was to done or if he would finish. When I saw it I noticed he came a lot closer to the look/feel of the photo than he let on too back when we started in October. Probably closer than I actually.

It was definitly interesting to see his take on it and the level of detail he put in (as usual) was amazing- especially for the close finish. No surprise to me that he took the gold, he definitly earned it. I'm just glad we both got them finished and entered in. Smile

Thanks David and Tom,

Again, Tom I really appreciate it, and yes, it was juts one vote away from a tie. Not sure if I had tied I would have come out of a tie breaker lol, but it would have been pretty cool to get that much closer. Maybe this summer's Dio contest? lol

No problem, real quick, what is the kit number of this set, I have tried to find it on ebay. Maybe the kit number will help...

#3016

I just searched DML 3016 and one came up

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=130355484728&Category=1191&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D1

Good luck, they're not impossible to come buy, but it'd be great if DML started reissuing their Modern/Vietnam kits with Premium editions or something like they've been doing with the old WWII kits. I don't think DML has done anything modern since the early 90s... Crying
