info about Hobbytown?
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, March 2, 2003 10:10 PM
i have never been to a Hobbytown store becuase the the only one around is 50 miles from my house. My question is, as far as figures is concernd would it be worth the drive to check them out? Does hobbytown carry a good selection of figures such as 200mm busts,120mm,90mm,54mm etc etc.

the hobbyshop here in my small town was a ma&pa owend store and after 45 years in the business they retierd and closed up the shop. so now i need to find a new source for figures and i don't like doing mailorder. i like to look at something in person before i buy.

thanks

Hobbytowns are primarily a franchise operation, so the selection will vary from store to store. Call them up before you go for a visit.

i wouldn't take a 50 mile trip to a Hobbytown. They are a Hobbyy shop which means everything from electric tains to R/C to dolls. Model selection is OK but you are better off doing mail order. Verlinden usually shows great pictures of the figures. If I remember correctly you are doing 1:35 dioramas. DML makes wonderful sets of figures if you are doing WW2 or modern.

I have six hobbyshops i go to reg I also have a hobbytown within driving dist. too but.... I would not recommend them to anyone the selection is not as good as the smaller ones the prices are the same as the smaller ones but the smaller ones have more knowlege and the people there are diehard model builders

I agree with everyone here; the Hobby town near me is pretty good for general items and for a good selection of paints. But approximately 1/3 of the store is R/C stuff, 1/3 trains and the last is models. My local store also has a good selection of wargaming stuff, if you are into that stuff.
