Young Miniatures German Waffen SS Ardennes 44

First of may i say Hi to all you guys, its been a while. Sorry for my absence but been busy with other things. I will try  to look in and comment on all your work soon as .Good to come home lads.

[My mate Ian (Big E) said to me the other day he was selling some of his stash as he will never get round to some of it. One thing he offered me before it went to Ebay was this 1/10 bust from Young miniatures. The last bust i did i sold and it went to the US so i thought this was one i would have a go at.

The detail is second to none on this and should make for an interesting paint job. Loads to get stuck into.

First up i cleaned up the mould marks and then primed it

Next up i sprayed on flesh tone from Vallejo Air as a base coat.

This was followed byputting down some shadows with dark red mixed with flesh.

I then mixed up very thin acrylic flesh colour and started the blending proses . This takes a lot of patients and time to blend , dry, blend, dry and so on.

Highlights were put in next

This was followed by the adding of the eye colour

Then the rest of the eye and eyebrows.

More blending and paint in the lips with red mixed with flesh, More blending.

When this was dry i mixed up a thin oil wash and then carefully added oil washes to the skin tone, drying inbetween coats

That,s where i,m at at the moment. sorry it goes on a bit.

Bodge....  have you done the face all with acrylics? I have been trying to get a good face with Vallejo paints and i am just not happy with the outcome so far. I have tried different a different viscosity every time with the paint to blend with and i am just getting more frustrated. I shall try again and follow your steps closely. I just can't replicate what you have done....

You make it look so easy!! Sad

Fantastic work so far by the way. I love those eyes!

Hi Justin , I am sorry to hear you are struggling with the acrylics on the faces. Yes this one is pretty much all acrylics apart from a very thin wash with oils at the end. Its a case of a lot of patients and a lot of very diluted shade and blend coats. I have tried to explain how on this paint job. Andy.

Hi Guys, yep a long time coming but got there eventually  I finished it in acrylics and a couple of light filter coats in oils. Painted leather straps and where i liked them so much i have decided to leave the MG rounds off. Hope you like it more than the judges at Telfod, Only jokingBig Smile

Are you kidding me?  This figure didn't place for anything at the show last week.  Everything was spot on especially the camo, worn leather straps, & flesh especially the eyes. Yes

They seem to like the exaggerated highlight and shadows type of painting. There were ones that got awards that i personally thought were not as good as mine but then am i being by-est. I personally think if things look real they are better than things that look painted.

Oh boy, it is a good thing the Americans won the Revolution War or we will be under British control at all model shows.  Your figure is the winner to my eyes. Yes  I have to say this... I miss your WIPs!  What happened to the diomara with many Germans?  Last time they were primed I recall.

Always good to have you around... take care Beer
