Grunt! c.1969

Here is my sculpting work. It is A US Army infantry private (Grunt) c.1969. He is on patrol in the Makong Delta region, and is attempting to cross a small steam by way of a fallen tree branch. The only part on this work thats not old spure is the leaves at the left side, they are from the strawbarries I had the daybefore I started painting.

Just re-read the original post, and saw this is your own sculpt. If it were mine, it would have come out more like Gumby.

Face looks really good, though I'd try to narrow the eyes just a bit.

Love the pose on the log crossing the stream. Very nice groundwork.

The colors could use a bit more blending, I think. Not sure about the highlights and shadows. Strange as it may seem,. try adding red to your base green for shadows and add yellow to the base  for the highlights.

You might want to revisit the flash suppressor,  It looks over sized in a couple pictures.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Thanks Al for taking the time to give some realy great advice. Too many years of fine arts classes kinda ruin you for figure painting, Hadn't noticed the short choppy colors, I'll have to work on this for the next one. Your right about the flash suppressor wayyyy out of scale. Hope to see some of you'r wounderful works soon, and again thanks.

FIVE STARS from me.  If I attempted the same, it would have looked like an alien.  Well done!

Looks great to me! I tried sculping a shark once and balled it up the threw it away, I wouldn't even try a human.

Really cute and good. Good natural sculpting pose. Sure looks grimy and dirty...I think he wouldn't mind a dip in the stream.Big Smile

Cheers,

Richard
