Help Please!!!
Posted by Sawdustbob on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 8:27 PM

I am doing my first figure, a 1/12 scale of a Tet offensive US Marine.  It is resin from a company called Kirin.  My problem is with the barrel of his M-16, the d--- thing snaps off if you just look at it sideways.Last night I lost the silly thing entirelyOops  I think that I can make a new barrel out of metal by drilling into the end of the fore stock and using the shaft of a hypodermic needle to replace the barrel.  What I need are dimensions, the outside diameter of the barrel, the size of the flash supressor and the front sight.

Thanks for any help.

I don't know a lot about early M-16 rifles.

From what i understand, the early M-16 used the lightweight barrel.

You can probably gather the general dimensions from parts suppliers like this source which names a lightweight barrel diameter of .625 inches.

I clicked on the

M-16 and AR-15 Barrels

tab for the info.

Googling M-16 parts called it up.

I would also suggest adding "Need Vietnam M-16 data " to your thread title so more knowledgeable Black Rifle folks can spot it easily

Hope that helps !

Trust me I am not too good at math.  It has been years since I have done heavy math... Whistling

I would take the broken piece to my local hobby shop where they sells straight metal or plastic or plastic rods in MANY sizes to find a perfect match.  I am better at matchmaking than math... Big Smile  I believe Hobby Lobby sells some of those too.

Every build area has those black holes and I've noticed they move from room to room as well. Wink

Mine follows me through the house and garage.  When I build my new build room I intend to put in a white vinyl floor and floodlights down near the baseboards.
