Help finding a specific civil war figure
Posted by train18393 on Sunday, April 3, 2011 4:50 AM

As you can guess by my name I am a model railroader kind of guy. I am trying to build a monument to the Civil War, since this is the 150th anaversery this 12th of April to the start of the Civil War. The city of Dayton is modeled on my train layout, and I was looking to replicate a monument that has been there since the 1880s.

If I could find a O scale (1/48) figure of a Union Soldier in the Civil War pose of parade rest I think, (His foot is slightly forward, the gun butt is grounded and both hands are on the forearm of the rifle in front of him.) The original statue of Pvt Fair was done in Marble, but the city of Dayton recently relocated the monument and replaced the marble statue of Pvt Fair with a Bronze one, so an unpainted figure (prefered), or painted about one real inch tall would be perfect.

I was doing Google serches and looking at military miniture web sites, but crikey there seems to be as many of them as there are model railroad things. If anybody could give me any leads my efforts would be much simpler. The rest of the prototypes 86' high monument can be easily turned on a lathe. The figure not so easy.

Probably the closest you'll find are these 40mm figures from Mil;itary Miniatures Warehouse

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

you may want to try http://www.michtoy.com/  they carry a pretty extensive line of figs in all scales. Even if its painted, you could easily spray it a bronze color.

Good luck!

Hope you paid in cash!  I think that guy did something similar in the mid 90's.
