120mm 101st Airborne Iraq 2003
Posted by dudley on Sunday, August 7, 2011 1:46 PM

I just fininshed this Verlinden 120mm resin kit of a 101st Airborne trooper in Iraq 2003.

It's a nicely sculpted and cast kit, with few airbubbles or problems.  I am experimenting with some new techniques using filters instead of my normal shading and highlighting... not sure if I like the results or not.  I think I am making some progress on my skin tones, but my eyes still seem to pop out too much.  Oh well, practice makes perfect!

Any comments on how to improve my skills are always welcome!

Now... what to work on next?  I'm thinking armor...

Thanks,

Dud

Great work Dud, looks nice. Yes

My brother built that one a while back when it was fairly new.

Great looking build. The thing that really caught my eye was the boots. I think that you nailed them. They look like you put a pair of my old boots in a shrinking machine. Yes

Hercmech, I have a pair myself that I used as a guide.  Thanks for noticing!

Deafpanzer, the base is something I picked up at a Michael's art supply store in their discount aisle.  They are supposed to be little trinket boxes.  They are made out of balsa or soft white wood and most of the lids are warped, so you can pick them up for a dollar or two.  I just flip it over, paint it, and 'viola'  a nice looking base that takes ten minutes.  The labels I do on my PC and print on CD label paper that sticks really well.

That is some real nice work, Dud. Eyes look good to me. If anything, tone down the whites to a pale pink, nearly a light skin tone, maybe? Guy's been outside in the sun, dust, etc. Could stand to irritate his eyes a wee bit. Less pop.

Really cool lookin' figure and presentation.

That's a great idea Steve.  I'll try it on my next one.

Thanks,
