Thank you very much for the interesting photos !

The chains hanging down from the turret overhang were especially interesting and I don't recall seeing them on tank models.

Every so often, FSM's website won't allow me to post photos directly to the thread and just posts the  typed links for the photos.

Did you have the same problem?

Hi Sprue-ce Goose,

Glad you liked the photos, I will put up some more shortly. As far as I remember the ball and chains on the Merkava are represented on the Academy Merkava IV kit. Being relatively knew to Armour and modelling I had no idea what they were for! (I thought they have huge flies maybe?) So I did a bit of research and during my looky-seeky process found out that Academy do a Merkava IV complete with Phot etch ball and chains.

When I posted the photos from photobucket I simply copied and pasted the direct link onto the post. When i look at the post I see just the direct link, I only see the link not the photo, to see the photo I have to click o the link.

Hope that  helps?

Tiger

Well, just pasting the links does make the page load faster.

I suspect you may not be aware of it,  but the Post / Reply Box has a film strip icon for inserting links to photos.

Usually clicking on the icon and pasting the active link into the pop-up box:

"Link to media

Enter the URL for the media that you would like to use."

will ( usually Whistling ) post the photos directly to the forum thread so clicking on the link is no longer needed.

Thanks again for the photos and I look forward to seeing any others you can post.

Those pictures are AWESOME!  Thanks for sharing with us... we never ever get tired of looking at photos like yours.  Now I want to visit that tank museum someday.  My first choice would be Bovington Tank Museum in England if it is the best tank museum out there?

Your pictures made me wonder how in the world did two early WWII French tanks end up in Israel?!?!?!?

Did you happen to see any German WWII tanks at the museum too?

Thanks again! Beer

Hi deafPanzer

The Israeli Museum at Latrun is the best I have been to. It does have a Stug III and a couple of Panzers (IV I think) aswell as Long Toms etc.... It has so much Russian stuff aswell and Israeli modifications it is truly unbelievable. It covers armoured warfare from the start of the Chariot! A brilliant place.

Bovington is brilliant! I mean that, it is just awesome, but I would say that because it has a Tiger, and a Panther, and a King Tiger (it will soon get a merkava!)

The French Tanks that Latrun has were actually tanks used by the early Israeli Armoured corp in 1948! Going back to the second world war the Free french forces fought the british in Syria and Lebanon. The British won the conflict and captured these tanks. They kept them util they left and the Israelis used them against the Arabs in the 1948 war of independance. Incidentally the Vickers light tank you see?

Originally it was an Egyptian owned tank that the Israelis Captured. A couple of Kibbutzniks set a trap (A ditch) and the Egyptians drove the tank into it. They surrendered!

The cromwells, now that is brilliant! The Israelis nicked them from the Brits! That is right, they "Stole them" Don't ask me how!

Hope that helps.

Thanks Tiger!  I am really into WWII armor so I am dying to visit that museum in England.  I read somewhere that there is another nice tank museum in Germany just outside Berlin.

Great information about those captured French armor!  Again thanks for sharing this with us... you should have posted this in Armor or General Modeling Discussion forum so more guys can see this.  I am afraid Figures and Misc forum doesn't attract alot of attention...
