WW-2 uniform color
Posted by prush on Saturday, November 19, 2011 4:46 PM

I have googled for info on color, and looked at as many pictures as possible, but keeping in mind that the pictures of WW2 uniforms are 65+ years old, and the fact that I am color blind makes determining colors very difficult for me.

What I am looking for is the proper color for US Army Air Force in WW-2

I want to add figures to a Dio with 2 - P-38s in a maintenance enviroment.

I will have an Officer or 2 as well as enlisted maintenance guys.

I understand that Army uiforms were green, but I see pictures of what appears to be dark tan uniforms also.

Please understand that dark green, dark blue, and black all look the same to me in regular lighting.

(I have been known to mismatch my socks in the morning)

Most helpful to me would be if someone could recoment proper Model Masters (Testors) colors to use.

Any help offered will help avoid critisizm when I post picturesBig Smile

Thanks

Phil

The dark Tan color is Khaki and was usually found with the older Class A's dress uniform and field jackets(Ike jackets) also the gators(spats) were generally Khaki color. In WWII usually the Battle Dress was Olive Drab BDU shirt and brown pants. General uniforms around army bases and Army Air Corps airfields were Olive Drab shirts and pants and were usually worn by enlisted folks.

Your uniform will depend upon location and time period. PTO vs ETO vs MTO. What would be worn in the colder climes of the Aleutians or England would not be seen in New Guinea, North Africa, or the Phillipines. mechanics coveralls were made of green cotton HBT material that was olive green in color The field jackets issued for most of the war were a Khaki cotton (called OliveDrab). Hot weather uniforms worn in tropical areas, especially early in the war were a Khaki cotton.

check out this site for a good rundown on US Army unforms (and lots of other stuff) in WWII.

This has always been a good reference to me as it has the modeler in mind. Someone had referenced once before.
