An odd question about a Mk 82 Snakeye
Posted by mstitel on Thursday, December 1, 2011 10:46 PM

I was requested to see if I could find an unusual model to build...a Mk 82 Snakeye bomb model(preferably with extended fins). I have never heard of bomb models, so I'm asking if anyone has heard of this? I'm assuming the person that asked me this wanted something in scale greater than 1/16th. Any help would be greatly appreciated, but I'm thinking it may not exist. Huh?

At that scale, it would be a scratch build, might wanna confirm what size they want first.

I'll be asking, but I'm pretty sure its gonna be bigger than the typical 1/72 thru 1/32 one would find in model jet accessory kits. If it is bigger, then I'll have to find someone who's good at scratchbuilding that lives in my surrounding area. this one would be a bit beyond my skills.

After talking more about the size to my friend, I discovered he wants one the size of a coffee tableSurprise. This is definitely out of my league. Since he's a welder, I might try to encourage him to try creating this one on his own. LOL!Yeah

Ah so he wants a 1/1 scale replica. You would be better off making the main body out of wood then your friend could make the para vanes out of metal but the main body needs to be painted blue which is the color of a practice bomb so you don't freak out people and cops. Besides making it out of wood means it is lighter and wood can be shaped much easier than metal.
